Promo codes | Boost Gym Membership Sales & Keep your Members Happy

Promo codes, or discount codes as they’re often known, are a sure fire way to make some sales. After all, everyone loves a bargain, right? When it comes to your gym or leisure centre, a discount could be just the incentive your prospects need to hit that ‘buy membership’ button.  

Why offer promotions?  

Promotions provide an incentive for customers to buy something and might just be the final push needed to make a sale. As well as benefitting your organisation through an increase in sales, your customers get to make some savings. It’s a win-win.  

And, according to research conducted by the Center for Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University, it’s not all a mental incentive. The studies looked at the physiological effects of using a promo code and found that levels of Oxytocin, one of our ‘happy hormones', is heightened and stress levels reduced in people who received promotional codes when shopping online compared to those who didn’t. You can’t argue with science, eh?

How will I be able to set up a promotion with the new functionality?  

Let’s say you want to offer a 20% discount on student memberships. All you will need to do is go to the promotions section in Go, add a new promotion including the name, dates, sites included, discount details, and the promo code. And then simply select the applicable memberships, in this case, student memberships.  

When the period you want your promotion to run for comes to an end, you can make the promotion inactive. This disables it and removes it from the main list of promotions so that you’re only viewing active and upcoming promotions. But don’t worry, it doesn’t disappear! If you want to review any inactive promotions, you can do this via filters.  

How is this different to setting up promotions now?

Currently, to set up a promotion, you would need to add a separate discount code for each individual membership. This can be incredibly time-consuming, especially for our public sector operators who need to offer multiple membership types. Let’s say you have 50 membership types in total and you want to apply the promo code to them all - you would need to set up the same thing 50 times. With the new promotions feature, you will just need to set it up once, taking 2% of the time it used to. Think how much time you’ve saved! Not to mention you’ve saved yourself from a very tedious job. Plus, because your promo code will be the same across all relevant memberships, you can use the code in your marketing to attract even more prospects.  

Steps for using a promo code through Go Join: 

The steps for your customers are even simpler and mimic the modern consumer experience they have come to expect from any other online shopping experience. The steps for customers are:  

  1. Go to Go Join, select a membership, and select 'Continue To Payment'
  2. Select the option to enter a promo code
  3. Enter the promo code and click 'Apply'
  4. The new price is displayed along with how much the savings are 
  5. Pay and become a member. 

It’s as simple as that.
